Buffy Season VI, episode 1

Buffy Season VI, episode 1

Yep, another episode one. And, yep, it is another episode one. Once again we get to see people giving little speeches to tell us who they are and where they sit in the universe. I did feel they did a better job than Angel though. Funnily, I got the feeling it was like the first day of school. Lots of friends who haven't seen each other for a few months trying to fit back into a groove that they can't quite feel anymore. Mind you, I also wonder if there isn't a fair amount of expectant crashing on my part when watching the first Buffy of the year. I want the episode to be as good as the best ones I remember, and I want them to sort everything out in one episode. Strangely, this never seems to happen. Okay, enough rambling, on with the review.

I enjoyed it. I thought the episode was good, and set things up nicely. The Buffy bot was fun. It's always nice to see Sarah Michelle Gellar playing a dumb role. She seems to enjoy the change. Fights were good. I do like the new "Power" Willow, but I'm wondering what (if any) weakness the writer will feel they need to introduce. I am finding the Willow/Tara relationship much more believable these days, and that helps.

Two things I wonder, though: Who is going to be the "Adult" figure now that Joyce is dead and Giles has popped off to England and is
Anya going to do any character development this season?

Looking forward to a good season, and hopefully a lighter one than last year.
