Droidy and DK's Engagement, Saturday 9th Feb 2002
As promised, here is Em's Review of the engagement party which happened on Sat nite!!
The key word that springs to mind when mentally reviewing the party is ‘low-key’. It was a relaxed, chatty, low-key event. I had a fun time, mainly because I had lots of good friends there and could freely socialise. So kudos on the guest list!!
I was late, but fashionably so, if I do say so myself. The car park was rocky and bumpy; my friend and travelling companion Fiona relived a cherished memory of doing burnouts there in the days of yore.
Wantirna Tennis Club was an ideal venue for the style of the party, there was a good selection of grog, and the food was deliciously delectable. Actually, I felt guilty every time I entered the kitchen coz Mr and Mrs DK were running things so smoothly and efficiently, and I really wasn't helping. Same feeling I get at home, basically. Except Mr and Mrs DK aren't in my kitchen. That would be my mother. Mrs Em? (Hi Mum!!)
The California rolls were my personal favourite, and Mr Droidy's chicken wings were another highlight. Mini quiches also quite acceptable. I didn't try the punch, but it looked tasty. Still on the gastronomical side of things, I'd say the only thing lacking was perhaps some beetroot dip which would have added some colour to an otherwise faultless lineup of flavoursome dip varieties.
As the evening wore on, DK paused his and Droidy's personal selection of mood music and gave a brief speech in his inimitable style, Droidy's performance was also convincing and I look forward to hearing more from this bright new talent. Two lucky guests with birthdays around the 9th Feb were treated to a stunning rendition of the infallible classic hit 'Happy Birthday' and presented with a sweet treat!! That was a touching moment, and I don't doubt that I was the only audience member with a tear in my eye. After a toast to the lucky couple, the party was back in full swing even though some dudes chose to leave.
Inevitably, the evening began to wind down and only two groups of guests were left; the Eng students and us. Plus a few other random stragglers. And DK and Droidy. Okay, so there were other people there but I wasn't paying attention coz I didn't know them. We convinced Droidy to open our present, which was warmly accepted, as it is clearly THE BEST PRESENT IN THE WORLD.
Anyway, we managed to overstay our welcome and got sucked into cleaning up!! Eeek!! So after some energetic sweeping, mopping up and clearing away, the evening sadly came to and end, but not until presents were opened, 'Rage' was watched and most of the leftover food scarfed down. Melbourne' weather turned and we all got rather chilly too. Not that the weather will really affect my final verdict...
Okay, I think it's time to wrap this up so I'll conclude by saying that I had a lovely evening and I'd say most guests did too; looked like everyone knew at least one other person and was comfortable socialising/catching up/just soaking up the atmosphere and taking in the vibe emanating from the party hosts, your 'Couple of the Year' and mine, Droidy and DK!! Yay!!
Congratulations on your Engagement and best of luck for the future.
And just for the record, I am not mopping up after the wedding!!
