Big Day Out 2002 28/01/2002 Melbourne
Another year.... another Big Day Out...

Starting early on a Monday (Public Holiday) is never good... especially after burning the midnight oil the night before... after obiligitory annoying drive to the other side of the city.. we were there, droidy, b, em and Stacey (sp?) and what did we then have? We had to wait.... first to have our bags and tickets checked ... droidy, being the bagless person ("that's what I'm for..." I think is what she said) walked straight in.... I waited for the bag check..... worrying about what they would say about the pill box (not mine.... and they were all 'normal' pills anyway) or about the bottle of water.... but in the end I opened the bag and the dude just said "Can you move a couple of things around and grab some stuff out?" I complied and was on my way... You have to love mandatory bag searches where the people doing them have no power to search your bag... they can only peer in, they aren't allowed to move stuff themselves...

So after what felt like ages (it was) we were through.... but hang on... they didn't rip our tickets.... dammit..... another wait for the ripping of tickets and the distribution of the show bags.... the show bag was the "duck's guts" filled with.... air.... and a couple of other crappy items.

mini programme - So we didn't have to pay for a program this year... I would have rathered though....as the size of this years made casual reading a bit torturous
a satchel of JavaJava from Nescafé - From the evidence I saw... this drink is best served by placing in the nearest puddle and stomping on.... actual consumption is not needed
Drug pamphletts - NO no no... they weren't telling us were to buy... or how to use them.... just that drugs are bad... mmmkay?
a Durex Fetherlight Condom - because after drugs.... all the BDO people are going to want sex right? nah..... but it gives them a ballon to blow up....
A bottle of water - um.... still unopened

So... this year's 'showbag' really did contain stuff everyone needed to litter the entire venue.... geez... I saw some JavaJava in the urinal .... well I hope it was JavaJava.... ew.....

Of course the bottle added that little extra for the idiots in the house..... more on that later....

After the sharing of mobile numbers it was time to um..... listen? Because of the mentioned lines, I missed seeing Superheist, I'm not a huge fan, but one of the woman at work knows them... so I always try help out friends (and friends of friends it seems)... We did manage to catch the end of One Dollar Short... a band I first saw when Novo was playing one night. I don't think the early start agreed with the punters too well... but the band made the most of it.. on the last song, they got some guy from another band to come up and yell or something... most strange... signs of a newish direction ? who knows

We then did the stall walking thing... by this stage I was hungry and grabbed the most expensive slice of pizza I've paid for.. at $5.50 a slice you know someone is making money...

Lots of jewelry stores and a couple of temporary tattoo stores were interesting... but without extra money I was safe from the consumer demands of the BDO... unlike someone else later...
