Amelie starring Audrey Tautou. French with English subtitles
I went and saw this movie last night and I have to say it's the best movie I have seen in a long while, inc Harry Potter and LOTR (both of which I loved btw!). It is directed by Jean-Pierree Jeunet (Delicatessen, City Of Lost Children) but is not as dark as either of these movies and yet retains the quirkyness (is that a word?) of he previous movies.
Amelie is a young woman who through a series of events decides to devote her life to helping other people become more content and happy in their lives. There is an irrestible cast of weirdos that she befriends and "helps".
Go see this movie! Even if it is in French! you will not be able to resist laughing as I did with the rest of the theatre.
On the flip side I feel the need to make a slight ahhhh. We (a group of about 17) went to see this movie last night at the Rivolli in Camberwell (a beautiful cinema btw) and as you may or not know this is an allocated seat theatre. We had two rows fairly close to the front (OK we were running late!) When we got in the theatre a guy was sitting in the middle of one of our rows. I politley asked him to move as he was in our seats. He said that others were sitting in his seat and refused to move. I explained that we were a large group that wanted to sit together and that he was breaking the group up completely. After about five mins of him being rude he stood up and pushed past me! I thought the guys that I was with were going to go for him but they were great just asking how I was. He proceed to sit in someone elses seat! This went on! Enough of that Go see the movie.
