Waking Life

Waking Life

Waking life is essentially a movie about dreams. In it a man finds that he is continually dreaming and cannot seem to wakeup. He then meets all sorts of characters whilst wandering through the 'dream trails' (heh heh). These characters teach about all sort of different things about his dreams and his life and interpretation and other such similar ideas. The film delves into many ideas from great philosophers around the world and in the end he generally learns about dreams...in general (hmm bad description).

Anyway the film is strange in that it is acted out by live actors after which it has been animated, using a process called Rotoscoping which creates trippy moving body parts and backgrounds. If you are bored this film will definatly give you things to think about. I highly recommend this movie as this is one of those films that deserves at least two viewings(althought the 'big screen' factor isn't huge so video is fine).

If you want to see it on the big screen, it is still on at the Nova 380 Lygon Street
Carlton

Watch out for: The projector operating monkey and Steven Soderbergh

I'll have to see it next time around, or when it comes out on video/dvd cos it sounds really interesting ...
