They want it all, and they want it now
Today's rant is about Donation Re-soliciting.  Does anyone else out there get mightily pissed off by charities who badger them for MORE donations?  It seems strange to me that these organisations feel they should keep hounding me if I give them something once.  They are worse than Reader's Digest!

The normal flow of events seems to be:

The general lure.  This is the standard, blanket request for money/blood/bodilly parts and is fairly innocuous.
The hook.  I take the bait and decide to give.
The reel in.  I get a nice letter saying how happy they are that I have donated, and how my donation has made such a difference to someone, somewhere.
The wringing, skinning, cooking.  Some time later another letter arrives, a personal one this time, telling me how my donation was wonderful (again), but they need more AND THEY NEED IT NOW!!  The guilt factor here is also usually very high.  I get to see things like "If you donate $10 today, little Johnny will live another day..... otherwise he'll die".  Okay, I made up the last bit, but the implication is there.

The Red Cross is the worst I have come across.  They decide that anyone who has given blood will give blood every three months, and they will damn well make sure you do.  They act like debt collectors.  They ring up with nice reminders like: "Just wanted to remind you that it is time to give blood again, where can I book you in?"

I sometimes wonder if it wouldn't be better to never give anyone anything.....

I haven't had anything that bad...although my Mother always gets pestered. The excuse 'I give a lot to other charities so I don't want to consider others at this point' just doesn't seem to work.
Once my main charity dudes rang me and asked whether I'd consider a one off donation on top of my monthly ones. I agreed, and filled out the forms for a different bank account, but unfortunately it turned into a regular thing and they scrapped my previous (lower) donations from old account. Despite the fact that the person sending me the bank details form had written 'One off donation' on it. When I rang them to question it, of course it was all my fault. But they were good about it otherwise. And they send me cool pictures so it's all forgiven.

I get the blood bank people all the time ... I have donated in the past, but things like being sick, and piercings have pretty much ruled me out from donating for the next while ... they like doing the phone call thing though, but I haven't actually been home for any of the phone calls ... I guess that's what happens when you effectively live in one of three places?

Door to Door Donation people? As long as they don't ask if my Mum or Dad are home when I'm not over at the parental abode, I'm fine ... although most of the time I'm not likely to have enough money on me to worry them anyways ...

Ok, I should get back to doing something, or at least stop choking or something ... reminds me... I should go and retrieve my pencil case from Decay's place ... long live Turbo C++ 1.01 ?

AAHHHHH!!!

Please don't mention the Blood Bank....

Q.What's the fastest way to see a 195cm Moby crash to the floor unconscious?

A. Take a syringe full of blood for a blood test.

Hmmm.. must tell that story one day... :)

The only organisations I donate to are the Lost Dogs Home & Salvation Army (ie money in the tin). That way I remain anonymous and not be bothered by re-soliciting of others, or having my details passed on to other charitable organisations seeking money/goods
