Napro Live Permanent Colour: Rich Copper Blonde

This is colour number 28 in the Napro LIVE Colour range, and the box contained:

  • 1 Bottle of LIVE Colour Gel (40ml)

  • 1 Bottle Developer (50ml)

  • 1 Tube LIVE Colour Conditioner (22.5 ml)

  • 1 Pair of Gloves

  • 1 Instruction Leaflet

Instructions were pretty simple: mix together the developer and the colour gel, apply to damp hair, leave for 30 minutes or so, then rinse out and condition hair with the conditioner provided...

I have to give them points for the whole mixing colour and developer doohickey they had going on ... the colour was in a bottle that, after removing the lid, screwed into the base of the developer solution, and they all mixed together nicely in an easy to hold bottle... but wait, there's more! Not only was the bottle easy to hold, but there was none of this snipping off the end of the applicator bottle, no, we got a screw-cap nozzle! Whoa, Trippy! They don't get bonus points for the gloves they provided though ... not very well fitting standard issue freezer bag-like plastic gloves folded into a little rectangle... We'll have to hunt down the hair dye that gave the gloves in a little capsule... that was kewl (:

Application was easy... with a big peroxide smell ... and the whole exothermic reaction going ... lovely warm bottle ... or maybe I've had a bit of practice now? The colour applied was already a pretty bright red-orange-brown colour, and I have a tendency to colour more than just Decay's hair ... normally there's stuff on his forehead and ears and neck by the time I've finished doing his hair ... it was a little more difficult to remove the colour before he rinsed his hair, so it left him with a bit of an orange tinge to his skin ... either that or my eyes are all funny. Anyway, the orange tinge disappeared once he'd done the rinse and condition ...

Result? Um... last night Decay had some very red verging on orange hair... it was a bit brassy looking ... and doesn't match his eyebrows as well as the last colour managed ... It's not quite so brash this morning though so it looks ok ... I'm still of the opinion that Decay is suited to being a redhead (:

Rating? 8/10 ... I liked the colour mixing system ... we'll see how long this colour lasts then?

Why not go for a new colour? "Red" must be getting a little "old" by now. Is blue on the cards, or maybe a nice platinum blonde?

... I've suggested blue and green to the Decay, but he doesn't want to hear of it ... it'll probably be me who goes for the blue and green and purple hair dye again ... I'm getting quite sick of attempting to grow it longer already!

Hmm... it's a few days later now, and this morning bits of Decay's hair looked a bit faded out ... verging on pink. We could also pick out bits where I'd missed colouring the roots, but definitely less brassy than immediately after doing the rinse and condition ...

what colour was his hair before being dyed?

... sort of dark dirty blonde ... I guess? Just before we dyed it? Very faded remnants of the previous colour we tried (: hee hee (:

THere is no such thing as a permanent blue hair dye, all blues are semi-permenant and will gradually fade to a grayish color, some dyes just fade faster than others.

Try Jazzing- mood indigo OR Special Effects (be careful with SE because their dyes continue to stain skin and clothes long after the application)

I have used live napro hair color before, 'red' always, and in the past when i've used the product it has been a really intence lovely red color. Last night i used the exact same product and got a really weak result, i did everything the same way as i always do, so i'm at a loss. i should e-mail them and say i'm not satisfied, I have really long hair, so i always have to use 2 packs. I think I should get a refund. thanks for listening to my whinge!

I have heard about a range of hair products called Framesi, they have hair dye in the primary colours (red, yellow, blue), and they can be mixed to whatever colour your want. Apparentely the dye is semi-permanent and permanent, depending on the blend. It is Italian and the only way to get it is through a salon I think.

Hope that's a help to everyone wanting blue and purple hair out there.
