Introducing the sidebar...

You may have noticed a link over on the right that says Install sidebar, this is a new introduction and the first of the many changes I have planned for rantspace.org.

The sidebar is used in Mozilla and its derivatives. It is an open-source web browser that is easy to use and has some great features, like pop-up blocking and tabbed browsing.... The sidebar concept in Mozilla looks like this:

You can see the sidebar along the left, you can load up sidebars for lots of different sites and switch between them. For now I'm just cataloging the rantspace.org categories, but I will be adding the rantspace hosted sites soon.

So for Moz users you'll have a quick and easy way to check to see if any ranting has been happening....

Other updates to come [:

kewl fun ... more fun stuff to play with ...

So this will appeal to the 2-4 people who might use Mozilla *and* read rantspace? Or do I underestimate the readership levels here? (: Go on... prove me wrong!

I would love to prove you wrong guys, but just letting you know that I won't be one of those people...

Interesting.

Something to finally snazz up my 'ol Phoenix browser..

I am presuming it works on Phoenix. Oh well nothing to lose :)

It should work on Phoenix (which is a Moz derivative)

It appears it doesn't like the 0.5 Phoenix build.

Never mind. It installed quite nicely on Mozilla though.

/me scratches head....

Very Nice. I like this side-bar thing.

I've made the switch to Mozilla too. The Sidebar thing is cool, I like it.

The other thing I really like, and the feature that will probably keep me with Mozilla, is being able to arange windows in tabs (doing web hosting support I get a lot of browser windows flying around). Sometimes Mozilla's behaviour is a bit odd, but I can deal with that.

The tab thing is very cool. I use Netscape 7.01 (Linux) at work, and IE at home. I do miss the tabs when I get home. Netscape has managed to go from being the best, to being the worst, to being pretty good. Maybe one day it will re-grab the "best" title. Before it does, though, it needs to lose a bit of bulk off its footprint!

Try Phoenix sparker, it has the niceities(sp?) of Moz/NS without the bulking footprint.
