The Wedding |
[ December 02, 2003 ] |
The wedding of Decay and Droidy. Well it came and went. And, it went very, very well!
Bride and Groom looked wonderful, as did their respective entourages. The
gents looked dapper in their suits, while the ladies looked stunning in their
glorious summery dresses. Decay's "Matrix" outfit was only surpassed
by Droidy's simple, yet elegant wedding dress.
The day itself was a parallel of the events leading up to the wedding. We
were told initially that it was going to be hot, but the morning brought
clouds, thunder, lightening and rain. This cleared as the day went
on and then headed back to the promised warmth. After the ceremony
itself the heavens treated us to a light shower, more a sun shower than a
serious attempt to annoy. Maybe it toowas letting out it's breath.
Now, back to what actually happened:
The boys lined up on the edge of the dance floor, looking like all grooms
and groomsmen before them: expectant, nervous, vaguely uneasy. The
guests milled about outside then slowly shuffled in. Seats were taken,
positions were grabbed, cameras were made ready. After what was not
too much of a wait (time is relative, remember) the mother of the bride arrived.
This heralded the entrance of the bridesmaids, followed by the bride
and her father who entered to an enchanting song sung by the Groom's mother
(everyone had to restrain themselves when she finished. I gather clapping
and cheering at a wedding is a no-no). Once everyone was in place the
celebrant took over. She presided over the ceremony with the pomp and
ceremony afforded a royal wedding. She floated through the various
comments on how important getting married was and wafted over the other various
pieces of discourse. Finally she reached the vows and the handing of
the rings.
Finally the guests were given free reign to mob the bride and groom,
and mob them they did! The bridal party then stood outside for a while,
which gave everyone the chance to chat to them and say nice things. This
was a very welcome change from the usual "Ceremony-disappear-reappear" timetable.
However, they were eventually ushered off by the photographer (a nicer
photographer you will be hard pressed to find) and the guests were ushered
back inside to sit, chat, drink and await the reemergence of the guests of
honor.
The bridal party was scheduled to re-emerge at 7:00pm. 7:00pm came
and went....and went....and went. It seemed there was a hold up. It
turned out that getting a pair od 20 up Doc Martin's on was not a quick feat,
and ended up taking about 20 minutes!!! So, once the bride was
suitably shod the party entered. The bride and groom took up the rear,
and headed for the cake, a most magnificent construction circled with the
same binary as appeared inside the wedding rings: the binary for LOVE. They
did the obligatory thrusting of the knife into the cake, then sat and meals
poured forth.
The meals at the wedding were very good, which is actually quite rare for
a wedding. All three courses (entree, main, desert) were very pleasant
and seemed to be enjoyed by all.
At the end of the mains, the speech making time arrived. First came
the father of the bride, who gave a simple, and sincere speech which, in
summary, said he was so comfortable with the marriage of his daughter to
Decay that he was happy to spend the morning playing golf. Decay followed
this with a series of thank yous and heartfelt adoration for his new wife.
This was followed by the best man who gave a speech that went from
highly amusing to very touching. Then the bride and groom moved on
to the dance floor for a gentle swirl. (I know I was meant to know
the song they danced to, but I didn't. If anyone can tell me what it
is I'll pop it in here!!) Their parents then joined them, followed
closely by the rest of the bridal party. Soon after the Swing Band
who had played so well throughout the evening kicked back in (the bridal
dance was on CD), allowing DK the Elder to show here dance expertise (quite
impressive, I might add).
Too soon, the dancing finished and deserts were served. From here,
time seemed to run away. The bride and groom tried to get around to
everyone, while still trying to escape on time... They didn't manage the
later and, after braving the gauntlet of all the guests, escaped at around
11:00pm.
So a lovely night came to an end. The wedding planning we had watched
grow, stumble and rumble along had finally come to fruition. Everything
seemed to go well, and there were smiles all around. It would appear
that the newlyweds had an excellent start to their married lives together.
