Our second full day of the whole New York thing began with us looking out the window, at the snow attempting to fall from the sky ... all thoughts of doing anything in the morning before we met up with a couple of Decay's work friends were quashed once we saw what time we actually woke up, nevermind the whole snow thing...
By the time we got ourselves organised and breakfasted in the hotel restaurant, the rate of snow falling had increased, and the prospect of waiting outside to meet up with C & D was ... not my cup of tea?
Eventually, they arrived, and after providing them with some quick email checking facilities, we decided to take a taxi out to the Guggenheim museum to check out some modern art type stuff... The exhibition was of the work of James Rosenquist (someone who was part of the Pop Art thing), with mini-exhibits of Fellini, Klee, and Kandinsky. Lots of colourfulness, and the inside of the Guggenheim building was pretty kewl as well ...
After this, we did a bit of Subway travelling (it's not quite as scary as it looks, especially when you've got seasonned Subway travellers with you), and ended up in Times Square... when the idea of lining up for cheap tickets to a theatre show came up ...The girls waited up in TGI Friday's, while the boys stood in line to get tickets to a show that wasn't Aida or Beauty and the Beast ... Meanwhile, my trusty 8-up docs decided they didn't want to hold out any water anymore, and I got really quite frozen feet as a result ...
After some hot mashed potatoes (Droidy), Chips (Decay), Chicken Fingers (D), and Baked Potato (C), we tried looking for shoes but there weren't any decent ones from a quick look ... then we trekked back to the hotel, and did a quick change of clothes and shoes ... then lined up outside to attempt to hail a taxi to the Booth theatre to catch "The Retreat From Moscow", in which John Lithgow played Edward. It was something different - Decay's reasoning was that there wasn't going to be such a chance to see a show like this in Melbourne, and certainly not with Mr Lithgow in it ... it was very good... even though the subject matter of a marriage breaking down isn't exactly the most appropriate, less than a week after we just got married, but there were laughs, and touching moments, and we enjoyed ourselves - it was well worth the traipsing about in the snow, and the taxi ride where we caused a mini traffic jam attempting to cross the road to get to the taxi, and then nearly hit something while we were travelling to the theatre ...
Something we've noticed so far is that no-one's picked us as Australian yet ... they all seem to think we're from England or something ... we mustn't be saying 'Crikey!' and 'Strewth!' enough ... better do something to rectify that, I guess?
Tomorrow is our last full day in New York - since the whole snowstorm thing is going to continue to happen, we're not likely to be doing much more major trekking about to catch the big tourist things... we'll probably have a doughnut, find a decent pretzel, and eat a bagel. I'm not so sure on the cream cheese and lox thing yet though. The other thing we'll probably try to do is find me a pair of shoes that won't leak icy cold slushy water onto my feet... my docs are quite wet, my boat shoes are impractical in slush (although they're fine for walking about), and my tennis shoes are my last option ...
We might try to wake up at some earlier time as well ... Sunday morning's trek out to the airport is going to be interesting... especially considering the weather conditions and the possibility of being snowed in and everything ...
