Starbucks! Hello Kitty! Shoes! Donuts! Falling Asleep!

Today, we actually woke up earlier than we have in the last two days. This is a good thing, except for the whole lots of snow and coldness thing which sort of stopped us from doing much super-touristy stuff on our last full day here. Meh, we're not really super-touristy people, are we?

This morning's trek took us out as far as 43rd and 8th Avenue, which is the location of the first Starbucks that Decay and I have ever bought a coffee from ... After much trekking through snow and cold (we have walked further, but that was pre-snowstormy goodness), the warm space inside a Starbucks does begin to look rather enticing... At least we waited til we were in the USA to succumb to the evil?? Decay had a Hot Chocolate, and I had a Vanilla Latte ... both were very nice, but I'm not sure that they're worth so much every time... the next time we're cold enough to scoot inside a Starbucks, I might go for a Gingerbread Latte ...

We turn into 42nd Street (cue tapdancing ... or something), and there's a Sanrio Store ... how can I refuse the explosion of Hello Kitties (who have no mouth)? It was kewl fun wandering about, and eventually we picked out a letter set tin to buy, because the tin was kewl (;

The next stop was to the Skechers shoes, in the quest to find me some sturdy shoes. Decay spotted some very funky looking boots, 10-eyelets, in a silver-blue burnished black boot colour (think Decay's Green Steel-cap docs, but instead of the green-ness, make it grey-blue), and a zipper on the inside leg of the boot. They kind of match the colour of the nail polish that is STILL on my fingers ... (G - I've managed to get rid of nearly all of my fake nailness... only some scrappy bits left on my left and right thumbs, and my right hand's fingers ... AND I have managed not to break the one we left long...) We bought these, because they fit, and they look pretty kewl, and they make me a little bit taller with a bit of a platform, rather than any serious heel *grin* ... Added bonus? They were 30% off because having a boot sale on when it's snowing is good, right?, and much cheaper than what we'd be paying for boots in Australia anyways ...

We contemplated going to Madame Tussaud's, but since Decay didn't bring his camera along, we decided not to ... the trek back to the hotel room was definitely easier than the trek out, and FINALLY we managed to find a donut place... Dunkin Donuts was our next stop. We'll have a picture of this, because we bought a dozen donuts, since the person at the counter didn't seem to hear the 'half' bit of the 'half-dozen' that Decay specified ... we didn't mind, since that became our breakfast, and our lunch (: Getting 12 assorted donuts does mean you get some pretty weird looking ones, but so far they've all tasted pretty nice...

After an afternoon nap that was only supposed to be 30 minutes long, we woke up at 6pm, about three hours more than we were going to be asleep for... At some stage before the nap, Decay enquired about ordering a taxi for 6:30am to the airport, and instead booked a private car service to drive us there for a flat (prepaid) fee. It was recommended as the better deal, and maybe we'll get someone who won't freak us out too much ...

Nevermind, we traipsed down to the Hard Rock Cafe (only two blocks away), for some dinnery type stuff. I tested out my new boots ... comfy, didn't get my feet wet, made me taller. They get Droidy's tick of approval for the moment. Decay bumped into a couple of people begging, and got them out of the way with a couple of dollar bills, but was annoyed because they made him step into some slushy stuff... which was the first time he got wet feet from his very kewl hiking shoes we bought before we left ... They've held up very well, keeping his feet warm and dry for the most part, and being grippy when the New York Pavement has been less than helpful the last couple of days.

The Hard Rock Cafe in New York is pretty much like any other Hard Rock cafe ... memorabilia everywhere, chirpy waiter dudes and dudettes, but surprisingly (especially after having seen the prices at TGI Friday's the day before), not horrifyingly overpriced. Decay got a Pig Sandwich, and I had some boneless chicken tenders smothered in hot sauce of some sort. They were a bit too flavourful for my tastebuds tonight...

Tonight, we're packing our bags, and hoping to get some sleep before having to wake up at 6am for our car ride to the airport ... Because of the snowstorms and stuff, our flight has probably been thrown completely out of whack, and we need to make sure we're there and checked in well ahead to guarantee that they don't sell our seats from under us (: I'm not really enamoured with the idea of having to sleep a night in the airport if the flight gets cancelled either... but we'll see how we go (; Next stop is LA, and we'll be staying in a hotel directly opposite Disneyland...

definition of snow
1. white things that fall from the sky...fun to australians for about 10 minutes before they slip on their butt in the mush it creates on the sidewalk so it looks like they poohed/wet their pants...
2. when they fall from the sky in big groups creates mahem...delays and lots of damage...not fun to anyone anymore
3. means it is very/extremely cold outside

G - my first nail fell off on friday, actually, i pulled it off, and i pulled two more off yday...can't ull anymore off though...so i have 7/10 still on...you shoud be proud...!
