Decay
rantspace IRC

With almost everyone in the rantspace community being online more (go broadband!) I've decided to setup an irc channel for people to idle in and generally chat away....

It will also be useful for those gamers amoungst us to get togther to sort out servers etc....

so....... we're on the ausirc network, a server for that is nsw.au.ausirc.net (the vic one is there as well, but I had problems connecting) and the channel is funnily enough #rantspace. you can also try ozforces.nsw.au.ausirc.net which seems to be a good one.

for those with an irc client installed click here, for those without an irc client go download mIRC or something else (pIRCh or trillian etc) the come back here and click that link...... which is again.....irc://nsw.au.ausirc.net/rantspace.

[update] I have added a java client to the page (in the links on the left), for those that aren't looking to be too geeky. If you get any java security warnings..... just say yes... this free java client is self-signed... hence the warning.

For those that don't know IRC is, go look on google [:

some useful commands....

to register
/ns register [password] [email]

to identify
/identify [password]

to private message
/msg [person] message

or go over to ausirc.net and have a read of thier stuff... useful [:

Droidy and I will idle in the channel as much as we can..... if our nicks are something like Decay|not_here I'm not there [:

Generally we'll aim to be online after about 7pm on most nights...... drop in and say hi

... is this the beginning, or the continuation of the friendly geekification of the rantspace masses? *grin*

Ahh well, it's nice to welcome back an old friend in IRC ... It has been a while (:

Braving the possibility of scorn and derision from those in the geek fraternity, what's a good windows IRC client?

mIRC is certainly the most popular....

droidy and I used pIRCh in our old irc days (more to be different than anything else)

These days I use trillian for irc, because it also does icq/msn/Yahoo.

Hiya, will work on downloading this mIRC business onto one of the pcs around home and c what happens. Looks like u guys have been busy fiddling with rantspace, if that is the correct geek terminology...I am not fluent in your language.

In the meantime, thought I would share meaningless spam I got emailed today:

"alan asteroidal offence expertus freshly tethys tubing chirpy astomatal
expectance hylidae.
waler placate abbreviate suberous shadows granada nevada quadriform aviation
articles.
casemate mainer palaestra fimbriate evove caribbean surtax placidity"

I had intended to get some work done last night, but I dropped into the IRC channel and ended up get nothing done. What a fun way to lose an hour (or more)

We saw you pop in and leave, unfortunately droidy and I were being domestic and washing and wiping up at the time...

Come in again, and just idle in there... [:
