HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

In the city (Melbourne) there was a massive fireworks display, so I hear. But in the burbs we have to make our own fun. We could have, like someone down the street from us, set off flares and car alarms - OR you could have fun with sparklers. We went the sparklers option. Now when you think of sparklers you may think of something like this...

But when you get 22 boxes of sparklers and tie them together with cable ties...

Sparklers before.jpg

You get something like this...

Skarkler carnage.jpg

NOTE: this was done in an area away from any tree or other combustible objects, and we had a fire extinguisher on hand (sort of).

Happy New Year everybody, and welcome 2005!

Wow. Nice job of taking sparklers to excess! How long did the thing burn for? And how bright was it? It looks impressive in the photo, but I'm guessing it was more so in person.

now THAT'S quality, v impressive work. please provide more details for those of us who weren't there to witness the magic and may wish to dramatically re-enact the event in the comfort of our own homes!

....Em, please tell me you mean "In the comfort of our own very large and barren back yards"! I'd hate to think what effect the mega-sparkler would have if released indoors!!!! (hey, maybe this is the next great horror film - "Attack of the Maga-Sparkler")

It only burned for a couple of seconds, and it was much more impresive in person than the photos show. They were taken with the camera on my phone, so not great photos. The heat that came off it was kewl to, and it took forever to cool down. The flower pot that we put it into so it would stand up - melted.

looks great but how many sparklers did you use and what did you use to keep them together.
