Well, after all that fun and excitement, what were we left to do today? A sleep-in was definitely in order, and then after we'd decided that today might as well be theme park day, Grumbler decided that perhaps giving bungy jumping a go would be a good idea... so, off Grumbler went to jump off (the underneath of) Auckland Harbour Bridge, and also jump off the Skytower with guide wires, and off we went to a shopping centre for lunch, and to Rainbow's End.
It wouldn't be fair to describe Rainbow's End as a better version of Pissweak World (for all you Late Show people), but, seeing as it was during the school term, and in the middle of the week there weren't that many people floating about... maybe just gullible tourists ... we were also informed that the corkscrew rollercoaster they had there was down for maintenance the day we were there, so that's another thing less to do ...
Because of the time of year we were at Rainbow's end, they were on a timetable for their rides - only half the theme park was open at a time, and after 25 minutes they'd change to another ride. Lumpy, Decay and I went on the Tower of Terror (is that what it was called), didn't get terrified, but then found out that the drop from the top wasn't quite as fast as it was supposed to be, due to technical difficulties ... we got lowered quite gently to the bottom, and advised to come back later when they'd sorted things out ...
Nevermind, off to do some non-serious go-karting. There were two different tracks - one had vehicles that seated two, one had single-drivers only ... there was the log thingy ride, which was ... meh. The drop needed to be higher (:
There was much fun to be had on the Bumper Boats... rubber doughnuts, with a motor on the back steered by rudders and a throttle to boot. Lumpy got completely owned by a kid about half his height, and eventually, Guru G found the throttle ...
The Dodgem cars were also a barrel of fun - we were actually riding around for 25 minutes because there were more carts than people wanting to bump about... if we dodgemed in Melbourne like we did in Auckland, we'd get told to get out of our cars... Dodgems are really bumpems here, which is good fun, but can be painful if you're jammed up by multiple cars (:
Eventually the kiddie flashback fun had to end, mostly cos the themepark was about to close, but also because we were due to meet up with Grumbler, post-jump so we could all go up Skytower ...
The view from above is quite freaky... Decay had much fun with camera (after having to go back to the hotel cos we'd forgotten our skytower tickets, and picking up the camera in the process), doing some very long exposure shots and other trickery ...
Dinner ended up being at a Turkish place called Midnight Express, where much lovely foodage was consumed... G raved over the calamari, so Grumbler ordered a plate of these after his main was done with (: Dessert ... mmm... turkish delight... all chewy and dusted with powdered sugar and ... mmm (: The Helva was also yummy, that being the choice of G ...
Oh yeah, on the way from the hotel to Skytower, Lumpy, Decay, and I went on the Bungy ride they had ... it's some seats mounted in a spherical frame, and you get shot up into the air with a camera (and microphone, as we discovered later) pointed at you ... this was heaps of fun, and $35.00 each... much faster than a normal bungy jump (well, the whole being shot up into the air and stuff), and still buzz-worthy... no glasses or sandals or anything that could fling off... there's DVD evidence of this too... the japanese girl we'd been seeing trekking about the city was also on this DVD, but without her jaunty sideways cap for the same reason I wasn't wearing my glasses (:
Post-dinner was more poker, as usual, and then time for bed ... G and I were determined enough to actually make use of our swimsuits that a spa at 7:30am was booked ... if I'm not awake before this, at least I'll be all prune-like afterwards?
