The Christmas Thing |

Every year I hear people complain about Christmas. They whine
about having to visit relatives they don't like (and who smell), about
buying presents, and getting stuff they wouldn't wish on their worse
enemies. I see people walking around with strained looks and
pained expressions. Money is spent on photographs with strange
red robed men, and people buy chocolates with merry motifs that cost
twice as much as their more ordinary brethren.
And every year I think "What's your problem?" I love
Christmas. Yes, I have two little people, Little Dude and Madam
(6 and 3), so this helps, but I've loved Christmas for ages. I'm
a Taoist (mostly), so Christmas has a more pagan feel than a Christian
one for me. It is a celebration of family and friends, and it is
fun. I buy presents I would like to get, and I'm happy if the
people I give them to do as well. I visit my family, which I
enjoy doing all year round. So, in short, I think Christmas is a
wonderful time of year. Lighten up, people. It's meant to
be fun!
Which brings me to the thing that kicked this off. Last night
dear one and I received a surprise visit from the two Ds (Droidy and
Decay). We haven't seem them for a while, for various reasons, so
it was quite a surprise to see them. It was quite wonderful
having them drop by. I can't help thinking that last night,
sitting in my under-renovation chaotic abode, chatting to wonderful
people I have neglected speaking to for ages was so pleasant that I
have to say, once again, to anyone who does the anti-Christmas
thing "What's your problem".
Thanks Ds. Its always nice to have my faith in the world
reaffirmed. It may not be a perfect world, but I think it's
pretty f*cken' good!
